Weight and construction come first
A half-lined or unlined jacket in a seven to nine ounce high-twist cloth is dramatically more comfortable in sun than a conventional lined suit, and it still holds a proper line across the shoulders.
Color for sand and water
Stone, sand, light grey, soft blue and pale sage all photograph well on the coast. Dark charcoal and black absorb heat and read as heavy in bright outdoor light.
Shirts, ties and shoes
A crisp spread collar in a fine cotton or a cotton-linen blend. A tie is optional at most beach ceremonies — if worn, choose a knitted or textured silk rather than a formal satin. For footwear, leather loafers or suede shoes beat formal oxfords in sand.
Two things people forget
It cools quickly once the sun drops, so plan a jacket you will actually want to keep on. And sand degrades leather soles — a rubber or lightly protected sole is a practical choice for the ceremony itself.
